There have been many people already that have followed my video tutorial on how to “Own Your Online Identity“. In that video, I teach people (step-by-step) how to register a domain name, setup a hosting account, launch a WordPress website and finally, how to use plugins and widgets to pull in your social accounts.
As is the nature of social media and anything online, it is constantly changing. And, the recent release of WordPress 3.0 has caused some issues with one of the plugins I suggested in the video mentioned above.
Linkedin Resume Plugin
The plugin I recommended in the “Own Your Online Identity” video is called “Linkedin Resume”. You can check out how it displays on older versions of WordPress by visiting http://trevorturnbull.com/resume.
Now, to see how it displays on a website that is running WordPress 3.0, click on the screenshot to the left. Notice that it is displaying a Linkedin Profile that belongs to the developer of the “Linkedin Resume” plugin. Unfortunately, there is a glitch with the plugin where the profile name cannot be changed. So, by default, anyone that has this plugin installed and has the newest version of WordPress…..they will have Arnaud Lejosne’s Linkedin profile displayed.
Now, although this might seem quite humorous, it’s not exactly practical :) I’m sure, eventually, Arnaud will get around to updating his plugin. But, in the meantime, I’ve found another Linkedin plugin (Linkedin hResume) that works very similar to this one, but displays properly on WordPress 3.0. Check out the video below for a step-by-step tutorial on how to install this new Linkedin Profile plugin.
If you have any questions about how to install this new Linkedin Profile plugin, feel free to touch base with me and I’ll do my best to help you out!
