Webinar Q & A
“The reason social media doesn’t matter is because, upon further review, it doesn’t exist beyond a label. Everything that we called social media is irrelevant and mislabeled – there’s a new way of doing business and marketing for sure, but it’s a behavior and focus on customer involvement that’s become a new norm – and that’s all there is to it.”
John goes on to say that what matters now is prospect engagement. And that prospects (clients) are drawn to the ability to interact with the companies, brands, and messages that they choose to absorb. He also explains that Customer Experience, Collaboration and Fusion matter and we should stop measuring adoption of social media and go to work on simply measuring effective interaction in marketing. John’s book “The Referral Engine” expands on this idea by explaining that the power of glitzy advertising and elaborate marketing campaigns is on the wane; word- of-mouth referrals are what drive business today.
The article really struck a cord with the social media community as it garnered 486 ReTweets, 132 Facebook Shares and 79 Comments and 471 Reactions (as of June 21, 2010). I was one of those individuals that commented on the article as I believe it really hammered home the idea that far too many people look at “social media” as something that can run on auto-pilot, when in fact, it is merely a tool that needs to be included in a complete business strategy (PR, Communications, Marketing, Sales, Customer Service, HR, etc).
This webinar was inspired by that article as well as a positive social media experience that Trevor had while on a business trip in Iowa when he visited a Panchero’s Mexican Grill. (Check out the article here: Using Twitter For Customer Service). Panchero’s use of social media is a shining example of how businesses (big or small) can use social media to engage with prospects and, as a result, build a loyal army of social advocates. Reid Travis is the Social Media Manager for Panchero’s Mexican Grill and in this exclusive webinar, he is going to share their secrets to success using social media.
